Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and place the rack in the middle position.
  • Cut the beef into serving-sized pieces. Pound thicker pieces with a meat tenderizer until they are consistently 1 inch thick.
  • Season both sides of the meat with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Place the seasoned steaks in a 9x13 baking dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine petite diced tomatoes, onion, bell peppers, mushrooms, minced garlic, salt and pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Fold together.
  • Pour the vegetable mixture over the steak in the baking dish, ensuring even coverage.

Cooking

  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and cook in the preheated oven for 1½ to 2½ hours, depending on the thickness of the beef and cut used.
  • Once the meat is tender, remove the dish from the oven and allow it to sit uncovered for 5-10 minutes.
  • For a thicker sauce, pour the liquid from the pan into a saucepan over medium-high heat. Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry, bring the sauce to a boil, and gradually stir in the slurry for 1-3 minutes until it thickens.

Notes

Consider marinating the meat overnight for enhanced flavor. Use a quality cut of chuck steak for the best results. You can add sliced jalapeños or red pepper flakes for heat. Always allow the steak to rest before slicing.
