  • ¾ cup granulated sugar Adds sweetness and moisture, ensuring your bread is tender.
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar Adds depth and a hint of caramel flavor.

  • 1 cup buttermilk Adds moisture and contributes to fluffy texture.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Provides necessary structure.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda Essential leavening agent.
  • ⅓ cup sugar Reserved for the cinnamon mixture.
  • 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon Infuses the bread with warmth.
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter Adds extra decadence.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350ºF and grease a 9X5 loaf pan with butter or oil.
  • In a large bowl, cream the softened butter with a hand mixer or stand mixer until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  • Incorporate the granulated sugar and brown sugar; mix on medium-high speed until combined.
  • Crack in the egg, add vanilla extract and buttermilk; mix until fully combined.
  • Sift in the all-purpose flour and baking soda; stir just until combined, avoiding overmixing.
  • In a separate small bowl, combine the reserved sugar and cinnamon.

Building the Bread

  • Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan, sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture on top, and lightly swirl into the batter.
  • Pour the remaining batter over the first layer, smooth it out evenly, and add the remaining cinnamon sugar, swirling it into the top layer.
  • Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the loaf.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 50-70 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 20 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra richness, consider adding chopped nuts such as walnuts or pecans. Use fresh cinnamon for best flavor and don't skip the swirling step to create beautiful layers.
