For the fries

  • 2 small small turnips With their creamy white flesh, turnips are subtly sweet and add a unique flair to fries.
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil (or avocado oil) This healthy fat adds a rich, aromatic flavor while ensuring those fries come out perfectly crispy.
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt Essential for enhancing the natural flavors of the turnips.
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder Adds a hint of savory depth that elevates the fries.
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika Brings a warm, smoky undertone that complements the sweetness of the turnips.

Preparation

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for approximately 5 minutes.
  • Trim both ends off the turnips and peel away the outer skin.
  • Slice the turnips into 1/2-inch rounds and cut each round into 1/4-inch thick fries.
  • In a large bowl, toss the cut turnips with olive oil, kosher salt, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.

Cooking

  • Place the seasoned fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  • Cook the turnip fries at 400°F (200°C) for 8 minutes.
  • Flip the fries and air fry for another 3-4 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Choose firm turnips with no soft spots. Consider adding cayenne for heat or rosemary for variation. Cut turnips can be stored in water in the fridge to keep fresh.
