Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips These little morsels bring a creamy richness and intense flavor.
  • 4 tablespoons butter Melting butter adds a luscious texture and brings all the chocolatey goodness together.
  • 2 large eggs The eggs provide the structure, making them fluffy and decadent.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract This aromatic ingredient infuses warmth and enhances the chocolate flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt A touch of salt balances the sweetness and elevates the overall taste.
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour A small amount provides just the right structure without making the cakes too dense.
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar It adds sweetness and creates a light, fluffy texture.

For the Nutella Filling

  • 2 tablespoons Nutella This hazelnut chocolate spread creates a gooey, rich center.
  • 1 tablespoon butter (softened) This makes the Nutella filling extra creamy.
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar A bit more sweetness for the Nutella mix.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your air fryer to 370 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips and 4 tablespoons of butter. Heat in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring after each interval until completely melted and smooth.
  • Add the eggs, vanilla extract, salt, flour, and powdered sugar to the melted chocolate-butter mixture. Whisk together until glossy and smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the Nutella, softened butter, and 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar until creamy and well-blended.
  • Lightly spray ramekins with oil, and pour the chocolate chip batter into each ramekin, filling them halfway.
  • Spoon in about half of the Nutella mixture into the center of each ramekin, then top off with the remaining chocolate batter, ensuring the Nutella is covered.

Cooking

  • Place the filled ramekins in the air fryer basket and cook for 8 to 11 minutes, depending on your preferred center consistency.
  • Remove the ramekins from the air fryer and allow the lava cakes to cool for about 5 minutes.
  • Gently run a knife around the edges of each cake, then carefully flip onto a serving plate.
  • Top with vanilla ice cream, drizzle with chocolate syrup, or sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.

Notes

Check cooking time closely for a perfect lava center. Use oven-safe ramekins that fit your air fryer. Chill Nutella filling for a firmer texture.
